Squash, Turks Turban
(Cucurbita maxima) Popular fall ornamental squash. Bright orange fruits are flat in shape with a prominent button striped and spotted in green, cream, and orange. 8” wide, 3-4 lb fruits have pale yellow flesh that is good for baking and cooking.
These make wonderful stuffed squash (we stuff them just like you'd stuff a turkey) as the skin bakes hard in the oven so you can bring the whole thing to the table in its own serving dish. The flesh is fairly thin, leaving a larger cavity for stuffing and is similar in texture to Buttercup.
